Joanna and Piotr
We are scientists/researchers (from chemistry to biology) – now both retired. We have Polish roots, but we have resided in Chicago for many years now. We are devoting more of our time to travel.
In March 2017 we decided to publish our travel log on self-hosted public website. It is designed as a cross between old-fashioned concepts of “photo book” and “travel log-book” for family and friends to follow us around. We added short flashbacks to some of our adventures before 2017. From time to time we use the info to support our contributions to travel forums. We are not interested in developing a true full-scope travel blog, but we offer contact, post comment and subscription options.
We have established our favorite hybrid travel concept including everything from wild car camping and multi-day hiking with a tent to staying at organized campgrounds and from time to time in motels or guesthouses (often just to reset, restock and do laundry). This works well on road trips from Chicago. When we travel by air, in combination with car rental and public transportation, we usually stay in B&Bs or cottages. Cooking at camp/rental place or eating out, if interesting local restaurants are found in time. We like less crowded areas, but enjoy also even very popular sites (national park) as they have a lot to offer too. Walks, if no time for longer hikes, are a must. We have become well organized and rather minimalistic. Luxurious/expensive hotels and resorts are not in the mix (yet).
