Effigy mounds on Mississippi River

Effigy mounds are ceremonial mounds in shapes of animals, built by American Indians who lived in this area. There are thousands of mounds near upper Mississipi river. ☞ Effigy Mounds National Monument Iowa is a very interesting historical site with good easy hiking trails and great views of the Mississippi. ☞ Wyalusing State Park is just across the river. Good camp site, more hiking trails and half a day canoe trail through the wetland in the triangle between the Mississippi and Wisconsin River. Good weekend spot for Chicagoans.

South Peru 2016

We had amazing time.  People were nice and helpful, travel was easy on our own. We covered a lot of ground from Pacific coast  to  high  Andes. Good hiking and of course important insight into Peruvian and Inca culture. We plan to return one day to visit the North. Machu Picchu was in one of our first posts on our The Wandering Spot website inaugurated on March 22, 2017.

Machu Picchu

Peru, day 21: Lima

Lima was our last stop of the South Peru trip: we started the last day by traveling on Metropolitano from Miraflores to Lima Historic Center, walked around the plaza and old streets, visited excellent San Francisco Monastery and catacombs, Cathedral and maybe another church and had lunch at Embarcadero 41, another sole ceviche and grilled octopus. In late afternoon,  we went back to Miraflores (by Metropolitano) and walked along Malecon watching paragliders and surfers, then to Kennedy Park with all the cats and it was time to go to the airport for our late night flight back home. Originally Joanna planned to go to Larco museum and Huaca Pucllana, but glad we spent the day the way we did, seeing more of the city.
